This Privacy Notice explains how World Vision, Inc. (“World Vision,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects and uses information when you visit the World Vision WASH website at mappingthebluethread.global (the “Site”). This notice applies only to the Site. When you leave the Site to give, sponsor a child, or visit worldvision.org, the World Vision U.S. Donor Privacy Notice applies instead.
1. Information We Collect
The Site does not include forms, account registration, donation checkout, or any other feature that asks you to submit personal information. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, or payment details on this Site.
We collect limited information automatically when you browse, through the analytics tools described below. This may include:
| Context | Types of Data | Primary Purpose for Collection and Use of Data |
|---|---|---|
| Cookies and first party tracking | We use cookies and clear GIFs. “Cookies” are small pieces of information that a website sends to a computer’s hard drive while a web site is viewed. | We use this information to make our website operate efficiently. |
| Website interactions | We use technology to monitor how you interact with our website. This may include which links you click on, how you scroll and navigate through our pages, and information about your device or browser. | We use this information to understand how you interact with our website to improve it. We also use this information to detect and prevent fraud. |
| Web logs | We collect information, including your browser type, operating system, Internet Protocol (IP) address (a number that is automatically assigned to a computer when the Internet is used), domain name, click-activity, referring website, and/or a date/time stamp for visitors. | We use this information to monitor our networks and the visitors to our websites. |
We do not use this information to identify you personally.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information collected on the Site to:
- Understand how visitors find and use the Site
- Measure the reach of our clean water, sanitation, and hygiene stories and content
- Improve the Site’s design, content, performance, and accessibility
- Diagnose technical problems and maintain the Site’s security
We do not sell the information collected on this Site, and we do not use it for third-party behavioral advertising.
3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
As with most other Internet sites, our web servers utilize “cookies” to track a user’s activity within our site as well as record the IP address of each visitor to this site. A cookie is a small data file that is stored on your computer. A cookie contains a unique identifying feature that allows our computer to recognize you when you return to this site. The recorded IP address tells us which domain you visited from (for instance, yahoo.com), but not your email address or other private and personal information. If you wish to opt out of this type of data collection, please see the section below on Submitting a Request to Exercise Your Rights. We may use the information we record for any of the following purposes:
- To help diagnose problems with our servers, and to administer this website more effectively.
- To gather broad demographic information about what countries and domains our visitors come from and their behavior on our site.
In addition, this website is enabled with one or more add-on services such as Google Analytics to collect information about the use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies.
We may also use third-party user experience and analytics services to understand how visitors use this site. These services may collect information such as clicks, scrolling, mouse movements, and page navigation, and may produce session recordings, heatmaps, or aggregated usage reports. We do not combine the information collected through these services with personally identifiable information. These service providers have their own privacy policies. You can prevent these services from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies.
Managing Cookies
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from using the Site.
4. How We Share Information
We share information collected on the Site only in these limited situations:
- World Vision Entities. We share information with other World Vision entities primarily to support communications with the communities that we serve.
- Other Disclosures without Your Consent. We disclose information in response to subpoenas, warrants or court orders, or in connection with any legal process, or to comply with relevant laws. We may also share your information to establish or exercise our rights; to defend against a legal claim; or to investigate, prevent, or act regarding possible illegal activities, suspected fraud, safety of person or property, or a violation of our policies.
- Service Providers. We share your information with third-party service providers. Among other things, service providers help us to administer our website, provide technical support, conduct analytics, and improve our services.
5. How Long We Keep Information
We keep personal information as long as reasonably necessary to advance the World Vision mission, comply with legal obligations or protect our or other’s interests. Here is what we consider when we decide:
- If we need it for other legitimate purposes, such as to prevent harm; investigate violations of our terms or policies; promote safety, security, and integrity; or protect ourselves, including our rights, property, or products.
- The need to advance our mission.
- The feature we use the personal data for, and how that feature works.
- How long do we need to retain the information to comply with legal and regulatory obligations?
6. Data Security
This website utilizes the Internet security protocol known as “Transport Layer Security” or “TLS.”
The TLS (Transport Layer Security) technology depends on secure Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) certified by a certifying authority like Thawte. Secure URLs always begin with “https://” rather than “http://” and if you are using one from a browser that recognizes TLS, you will also receive a preceding message and/or see a symbol, such as a lock, that signifies that you are on a secure page. Any information exchanged on such a page is encrypted in your browser, sent over the public Internet in encrypted form, then de-encrypted at our servers.
If your browser does not support TLS technology, you will receive an error message when trying to access our TLS page.
7. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and subject to certain exceptions, you may have some or all the following rights:
- Right to Access: The right to request that we disclose to you the personal information we collect, use, or disclose, and information about our data practices.
- Right to Portability: The right to obtain by a secure method the personal data we collect in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable electronic format.
- Right to Correction: The right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.

- Right to Non-Discrimination: The right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights.
- Right to Opt Out of targeted advertising and the sharing of personal data.
